Fox Sports says Michael Waltrip will remain as analyst

Fox Sports provided The Charlotte Observer the following statement on Thursday regarding Michael Waltrip's role with the network in light of NASCAR's penalties issued to Michael Waltrip Racing for manipulating the outcome of Saturday night's Sprint Cup race at Richmond, Va.:

“We were disappointed in the events that occurred in Richmond Saturday night, and we applaud NASCAR for acting to rectify the situation swiftly. Michael has expressed his regret over what occurred, and we believe him to be a man of integrity. As a NASCAR on FOX broadcaster, he’s demonstrated an ability to separate his roles as a driver/owner and an opinionated analyst of the sport, and we expect him to continue as an analyst for us going forward.”

    1. NASCAR DID NOT deal with it right!! Notice that EVERY Chase race has had a BUNCH of empty seats!! Tickets cost too damn much to see a WWE NASCAR event!! He has RUINED this sport's integrity; don't know if you will EVER get these people back, including me!! I do, however, plan on watching Jimmie win his 6th Championship on Sunday!!

  4. Fox has no integrity to let that loser on the booth. I'm not watching FOX if they put Waltrip on.

    2. OMG, no wonder NASCAR had a redneck reputation!! RACIST!! I'm a college graduate and once LOVED NASCAR!! Now, the integrity is gone, and so are the fans; THIS is the final straw!! And Bowyer: He got NO punishment at all, IMO!! Michael Waltrip can go to hell!! How many timesw does he get away with cheating before he gets banned from the sport? He's already been caught TWICE!! No more Truck Series Racing for me!! RAcist bast$$d!!

  5. I don't think MWR did anything wrong! This was the way driver's used to race before NASCAR went all PC. Are you forgetting that the sport started as moonshiners running from the law? Get the libs out of the sport and let's go racing boys!

    1. I agree with you. The same folks who are yelling for Michael to be fired from FOX are probably the same ones who gave Bill Clinton a pass over the Monica issue.

Michael paid a hefty fine, so move on now.

    2. No they do not!! And tell that to ALL those missing fans who ONCE supported this sport, but do no more? Talladega and Bristol were noticeably emptier than in year's past!! This thug should be BANNED from the sport!! The thug has been caught cheating big-time TWICE now!! WHAT A LOSER!! I will not go to another NASCAR track again!! There's other places to go and see than to watch a team of losers trying to influence the outcome of a race!! I AM DONE!! And to you REDNECKS out there who DO support what Waltrip did, be prepared: I am guessing in 5 years time, EARNHARDT NATION WILL BE TAKEN OVER BY JOHNSON NATION!! HE WILL PASS PETTY AND EARNHARDT ON THE ALL-TIME CHAMPIONSHIP LIST - YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK, BABY!! And THAT WILL BE WORTH WATCHING!!

  6. Y'all act like this kinda thing hasn't been goin on since the beginning of NASCAR. Every driver and owner on the track is trying to manipulate the outcome of the race it's called competition. I say let 'em race and race hard. Too bad if someone gets their feelings hurt. Nobody is fined or punished if a driver taps another driver. They need to get rid of the chase and just freakin race!!!

    1. Amber, do you know how STUPID you sound? Just asking? Drivers contact each other all the time - it's called racing!! But influencing the outcome of a race that would set the Chase field - INEXCUSABLE!! Didn't realize how many idiots there are who watch this sport!! You can BET if this had affected Dale Junior and his Chase chances or knocked him out of the Chase, you would all be HOPPING MAD!! And you WILL BE WHEN MY DRIVER, JIMMIE JOHNSON, WINS HIS 8th CHANPIONSHIP, SURPASSING YOUR SO-CALLED GODS EARNHARDT AND PETTY!! JIMMIE JOHNSON IS THE BEST DRIVER TO EVER RACE IN THIS SPORT!!

  8. SHAME on FOX, who I generally like. There are a lot of people who already despise MW and DW in the booth. TV ratings will just fall further thanks to this wuss decision.

  9. NASCAR has been fudging the points since the eighties. Penalizing Mark Martin for a non approved bolt in the carburetor so a up and coming favorite son could win the championship. Penalties against Jimmy Johnson to prevent 7 in a row. They were mad because somebody messed with their predetermined outcome for the Chase.

  10. The Waltrips have been a thorn in the sides of fans for years and years. They both are self-promoters and Toyota shills. To keep Michael on as an opinionated analyst after this black eye is to poke fans in the eye with a stick. Fox will pay in lost viewers. I will continue to watch with the sound on mute. I will not listen to or watch the two biggest braggarts in NASCAR ply their agenda.

  15. MW should remove himself... #NASCAR nor #FoxSports should have to even weigh in. Do what's right MW. Nixon resigned on lesser offenses.

  16. Fox needs to take MW and DW off their both idiots

  17. Big mistake FOX. Both of the Walcraps should be fired ASAP...please? And, I agree, MW should have the common decency to remove himself. What a fraud they both are.

  20. While I do think Waltrip absolutely had a very big role in what happened at Richmond (remember the rocket fuel from his first race as an owner?), the reason I don't want him on the Fox broadcast team has nothing to do with his actions as an owner.
The man is an idiot. He may have that 'aw, shucks' Southern personality that sells products, but when he's interacting with the other desk members before the race, he's acting like he's still in the sandbox in kindergarten. It got old on his 2nd broadcast, and he'll still be doing it in 2014. I'm all for having fun in the booth, but there's a fine line between fun, and idiot. He crosses it every week.

  21. Well said John B. I used to watch Fireball Roberts at the Oglethorpe speedway in Savannah and it has always been the caught an uncaught. We just have a lot more whiney piss ants out there today!

  23. Michael takes advantage of every opportunity to mention Toyota, his drivers, and his sponsors. He even spins the topics so he can give them free TV time. Those at Fox have too many people writing comedies. Their statement in just one more example.

  24. MW should be banned from Nascar until 2015

  25. I was on the fence before in regards to MW....Now...Shameful...I will not be watching any more truck races.

  26. I think he screwed up at Richmond. But I don't want him or his brother to broadcast any race ever. They both suck! They are so bias towards some drivers and teams it makes it hard to watch. DW might have been a great driver but he's the worst announcer and MW is just an a$$!!!

  27. Attempting to influence the impact of a race is no small thing ; you want to tell me that this has gone on since the 60's? Sorry, not buying it, NOT what this punk did!! And he's been caught cheating in the past? Daytona qualifying, 2006, ring a bell? People who support this goofy-ass idiot are true rednecks!!
